Roman and Jewel by Dana L. Davis5/10/2023 ![]() The story resolves all the tension with a neat little bow that takes away some of the realism that Davis put into the layers of her storytelling. Okay, substance is a bad word because this novel was extraordinary, and it had the substance, but I wanted more story to it. The pacing was well thought out, but the story, it felt like there needed to be more substance. However, as much as I thought the storytelling was, I wanted more. The play that Jerzie is working on may be the retelling, but the story itself is about a girl who is coming face to face with stardom and everything that comes with it. There are thousands of Romeo and Juliet, but the way Davis has gone about bringing to life a classic made it fresh. To be honest, I would love to see this play brought to life on stage it was that good. The musical Roman and Jewel takes place in the background, but every scene and how the story influences the actual plotline makes an engaging read. ![]() ![]() Firstly, the story is labeled a hip-hopera adaptation, giving this classic tale what the publisher calls “the Hamilton treatment.” Honestly, it was terrific. Davis has taken Romeo and Juliet and given it new life with this story. ![]() ![]() ![]() Tapping into her own childlike whimsy, the author decided that rather than the conventional tools for illustrating a children’s book, she would use something which will make everyone’s mouths water: cake. What makes this book unique, though, are the illustrations which have been paired with this story. Now, a lot of little kids’ books have these same sorts of plot and present this same-or at least a similar-message. ![]() From befriending a dragon to fighting pirates, swimming with mermaids to following the Sandman into other children’s dreams, the main character shows her young readers all of the amazing things they will see and experience when they open a fairy tale-and reminds older readers that the joy of reading is something you never really outgrow. In its thirty-two pages, readers follow the main character and her adorable puppy through numerous adventures and lands. ![]() ![]() With a simple plot meant only to enchant and spark the imagination, this story is perfect for both little kids and the adults reading with them. So, of course, when looking for a new book to share with my infant niece, Crystal Walters’s I Wish I Were a Fairy Tale really stood out to me. From the original (not really for children) fairy tales to the Disney-fied versions and TV shows like Once Upon a Time, anything fairy tale-esque is guaranteed to attract my eternally curious mind full of childlike wonder. I am a bookworm and have been since I was first able to read, and even now in my twenties, nothing captures my attention quite like fairy tales. ![]() Don delillo libra review5/10/2023 ![]() ![]() The attempt must look convincing, but the gunman is to miss. ![]() The plot is to have someone who can be tied to Cuba attempt to shoot the President. ![]() Roughly summarized, DeLillo's thesis is that a handful of semiretired CIA agents who were involved in the disastrous Bay of Pigs invasion come up with a plan they hope will galvanize America into some sort of strong and decisive action against Castro's Cuba. Not that DeLillo claims to have unearthed the "real'' plot, if indeed there was such a thing.īut clearly he believes there was a plot and has used this novel as a kind of space station - free from the constraints of earthbound historical veracity, yet still bound by ties of gravity (and gravitas) to many of the known facts of the case - from which to launch his experimental speculation.
